how blessed are we

I went on my last retreat with my youth group from church and wrote this while we sat near a campfire and sang worship music, here it is.

the fire dances across the logs

as the words of god dances on our lips

thoughts of the future linger in our minds

reflections on the past in our hearts

as we sing and as we worship

the sadness and the joy of the last time in our hearts

ready to move on

not ready to let go

we sit together on the beach

and he moves in us

the lord who moves mountains

and shakes the earth is here

our father who loves unconditionally

forgives eternally is here

the god who shaped us in our mother's womb

loved us before we were us is here

the creator of the universe

who sat down before time began

and wrote our stories

who planned that we would be here

together

is here

how blessed are we?

to know his love

how blessed am i?

to see his love

to see his spirit move

to have him live in me

how blessed am i?

to grow in him

to have people who grow with me

to have people love me as he does

how blessed am i?

to be loved

by the creator of the universe

how blessed are we?

to watch this fire dance

to sing his praise

to be together tonight
